We will share with you our learning journey on this page.  You can also find useful links to websites and access homework and video clips which may help children extend their learning.

Spring Term Overview 2025-2026

This half term our Christian value is Equality and our daily collective worship will focus on this value.

This term in English, the children will be consolidating previously taught grammatical features, learning new key grammatical features as well as deepening their understanding of sentence types. We will be writing character and setting descriptions as well as a newspaper report and Spring poetry. Our whole class text is ‘The Last Whale’ by Hannah Gold and our reading and writing will link to our text as well as our science topic on Light and Electricity.

In Mathematics,  Years 5 will be learning about multiplication and division , fractions, decimals and percentages, perimeter and area, graphs and tables. Year 6 will be learning about ratio and proportion, algebra, decimals, percentages and measure.

In Science, we will be learning about Light and Electricity. The children will be learning to associate the brightness of a lamp or the volume of a buzzer with the number and voltage of cells used in the circuit compare, giving reasons for variations in how components function, including the brightness of bulbs, the loudness of buzzers and the on/off position of switches and children will use recognised symbols when representing a simple circuit in a diagram.

Our Geography topic is all about ‘Angry Earth’ where we will be exploring volcanoes, earthquakes, tsunamis.

In French we will be learning how to order food in a cafe.

In Computing we will be learning about using databases including the skills of formatting and the use of formulas.

We will be thinking about how we can keep ourselves physically and mentally healthy and safe in PSHE.  This will include learning about the dangers of smoking, vaping and online gaming.

In R.E. we will continue to focus on how faith impacts how people live with a particular focus this half term on Islam.

We shall have PE on a Tuesday afternoon; children will be able to come in their PE kits on this day. If there is any change to this, you will be notified through Arbor.

In addition to this, children will need to read 3 times per week and have their reading records signed.

I hope that you find all of this information helpful and I look forward to sharing our class journey with you throughout the year.
