Year 3/4

We will share with you our learning journey on this page.  You can also find useful links to websites and access homework and video clips which may help children extend their learning.

This half term our Christian value is Hope and our daily collective worship will focus on this value.

This term our History topic is “Who were the Anglo-Saxons and why did they come to Britain?” We will be learning about the tribes: Angles, Jutes, Saxons, Picts and Scots; about how people lived in Anglo-Saxon villages and how Christianity came to Britain. We will then start a Geography unit on Rivers which we will continue in the Spring term.

In English, we are starting our year by focussing on our handwriting and grammar, supported by the book, ‘Arthur and the Golden Rope’. We are starting to learn joined writing and look forward to sharing this with our parents. Then, we will be describing Harvest using poems. Our class novel is ‘Varjak Paw’ which we read at the end of every day and explore during guided reading sessions.

In Maths, both year 3 and 4 will start learning about place value, addition and subtraction and then multiplication and division.

In RE, we will be learning about Hinduism and what a Hindu Worldview is. We are getting better at RE by using the characters Theo, Livvy and Sophie.

In Science we are learning about Forces and Magnets. We are going to work scientifically by conducting experiments to test friction, magnetic pulls and pushed and how the ‘Thrill Enginee’ Brenden Walker uses magnets in roller coasters.

Our PE this term will be on Fridays and we will be taking part in gymnastics and games.

For homework, children read to read at least 3 times a week to an adult. Then also need to practise their times tables on TTRockstars and complete their spelling homework.
